YCONCON: The Aftermath

I think me and my brother (in blood and in spirit) arrived late at around 8:10pm at the Araneta Coliseum last night. I was wearing blue jeans with a black shirt while he's wearing a black Misfits shirt and a khaki short. Our Metal spirit is at all-time high with the anticipation for a great loud concert. We arrived at the entance venue which other youngsters queing in the line to enter the event. Young 'punks' sitting on the side of the street are waiting for 'free' ticket in hope to join the concert. It's already pass 8pm so we decided to enter the gig. It already started.

The drummer of the Join The Club band is impressive. I was amazed! I was surpised that a Filipino drummer exist like Lars Ulrich. He is really skilled with great showmanship and heart with drumming. The guitarist of the Rocksteady is also worth noticing. I think he's a metal guitarist traped on a alternative/rock group. On the performance of Hammilan, including the violins in his song is really clever. Very Nice, initially, I thought a guitar lead is what I'm hearing but later realized that it was the violins that was playing. When SugarFree played "Hari Ng Sablay", I really sang with the audience. I really like the song. From time to time, the hosts, intervened the show to announced some sponsors and greet some guests. One of the host was really happy with the audience turn-out because 'as her exact words' it was like a PBA finals was being held. My brother indeed testified to it because the number of audience was really great compared to the recently PENSHOPPE fashion & rock concert held with the same place some few months ago.

A video was showed during one of the breaks. It showed the beneficiary Bicutan Rehabilitation Center. Youths who was picked from the street to be rehabilitated from using drugs on the streets. Even the schooling of these poor children will be assisted with the YCONCON's donation. Every penny is worth paying for the concert. The bands who played on the concert knew about the cause. They mentioned their support on it.

The stage is set, all new bands have already performed and gave way to the main act. The Wuds took the stage. After their first song, The Wuds greeted the Bread members, "Hello sa lahat ng mga BREAD", and then the guitarist/vocalist started strumming the guitar intro part of "At Nakalimutan Ng Dios", I already took a deep breath as the audience remained silent and listening to the song. The first stanza have passed and then the refrain, and then the chorus. While the vocalist starting to chant the chorus, He gestured his hand as if his enumerating his fingers while singing ..."eh ano pa ang gusto mo na magpapasaya sa'yo? ito ba ang karangyaan sa pamumuhay? malaking bahay, magarang kotse, magandang asawa, may mga anak, magandang damit, masarap na pagkain, sikat na sikat kase may pangalan " and then the kicker "pero nakalimutan ang Dios!". The crowd started to cheer realizing a great lyrics have been laid in front of them and return on their listening ears waiting for the next set of lyrics onslaught. Oh-oh, did I just saw the drummer was blind-folded while hitting the drums? It was both symbolical and technically genius!!! Indeed, the Legendary 'The Wuds' have taken other new comer bands into old-school. Despite of the age gap of the Wuds and the other bands, they really showed that they can still play. New bands have displayed what youth has been presently hearing. Overall, the YCONCON rock concert is a blast! the lighting, the sound system, the audience, the aura and the bands. It's a good thing to hear that the NU107 guest dj that hosted the event took notice on how being a BREAD member is really cool.

The Wuds' last song was Inosente Lang ang Nagtataka, which was recently covered by Rivermaya. While The Wuds are playing Inosente Lang Ang Nagtataka, Rivermaya sang along with them. So 2 bands are singging the same song. Cool! I don't know if it was the first time that Rivermaya shared the stage and performed the same song with their godfather (The Wuds), but I think It was a memorable feat for Rivermaya to sing with their master, The Wuds.

I arrived home around 1am, but it took me until 2am to finally go to sleep. My eyes are closed, but my heart still pumping for the concert experience. What a blast!

Oh my, Oh my. I have a suggestion. I hope the BREAD SOCIETY and the Organizers would release a DVD concert of the YCONCON. The concert itself + band rehearsal + stage preparation + the video about the Bicutan Rehabilitation Center + and many more. In this way, other can share our experience last night. Please reserve me a copy :)

The Bread Society have just put a large piece of territory on my metal map.

YCONCON trully deserves a repeat.
