Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Master Of Puppets

I already mentioned it, and I will mention it all over again. Metallica's Master Of Puppets album is the BEST HEAVY METAL ALBUM OF ALL-TIME. All of the 8 songs are full-blown metal songs. I already gave my rant on the song Leper Messiah here

Now, it's time for the insanity-inspired song Welcome Home (Sanitarium).

This song is about someone who is 'labeled' as insane and confined inside an asylum or sanitarium. (from the lyrics "just labeled mentally deranged"). He wants to escape from the mental asylum because he thinks he is actually not insane and just a victim of false accusation of being insane. Psychiatrist telling what to do or how to heal his insanity while in contrast that he is not actually crazy.

This song popped-up inside my head when I read the news of a nun died when a priest(with 4 other nuns) tied her to a cross, deprived her food and water (for 3 days) and put a towel to her mouth which lead it to her death. This was done by the priest believing that Maricica Irina Cornici (the nun) was possessed and needed to be exorcised. In reality, as reports said, Maricica Irina Cornici was not possessed by spirits but was suffering to the symptoms of schizophrenia. The romanian priest (Daniel Petru Corogeanu, 31) and 4 other nuns misjudged Cornici's behavior as 'being possessed' and decided to underwent her into a ritual exorcism rites. The priest and the four nuns were charged with imprisonment leading to death.

Noun: schizophrenia
Any of several psychotic disorders characterized by distortions of reality and disturbances of thought and language and withdrawal from social contact

(imagine that you are the nun, being labelled as possessed by some spirits, they tied you to a cross, you were not given of any food and water, they put a towel to your mouth and secluded inside a convent. This song is for you.)

Enjoy the lyrics and music.

Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Welcome to where time stands still
no one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, No windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Sleep my friend and you will see
that dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
can't they see it's why my brain says Rage

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Build my fear of what's out there
cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
but violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
he's getting better, can't you tell?

No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
but they think this saves us from our Hell

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Fear of living on
natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
Kill, it's such a friendly word
seems the only way for reaching out again.
