No Leaf Clover (Metallica + Symphony)

I think there's only one instance that Metallica performed this song and it was during the S&M concert with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. The audience was a mix of Metal fans and classical music lovers. And maybe was added by a number of curious people who want to see what metal + orchestra would sound like.

What? A heavy metal monster band playing with an orchestra. Yes. Sad But True. :) l've read that if rip:Cliff Burton is still alive, he would also allowed it. I also agree with it. Cliff is such a talented bassist and willing to explore with his skills. (just like Dave Lombardo -drummer of Slayer, he played with different genre of music)

About the S&M concert, there are 2 songs that I really liked on that concert. The instrumental song 'The Call Of Ktulu' & their new song 'No Leaf Clover'.

'The Call Of Ktulu'
The song is perfect with an orchestra. The musical power and prowess of what's left with Metallica surfaced on their performance. The guitar intro, the bass, the lead guitars and (oh man!) the drumming skills of Lars Ulrich is so amazing on this instrumental song. The symphony just played on the background while Metallica is performing. I think Metallica won an award on this song. (I guess it's best heavy metal instrumental song). They deserve it.

I wonder what if they also played their other instumental song 'Orion' with the Symphony Orchestra? That would be cool!!!

'No Leaf Clover'
This is a new song (by then) by Metallica which I also think that perfectly fits with the orchestra. I initially ignored this song cause it was not that heavy metal. Only recently I cared to read it's lyrics. Oh man! This is a heavy song. The song is not about a good fortune but instead about a bad fortune that's why it's title is 'No Leaf Clover' instead of 'Four Leaf Clover'. If the orchestra played just a background during 'The Call Of Ktulu', it's not the same case with the 'No Leaf Clover'. The orchestra played an integral part on this song. And it blended well with the heavy rhythm guitar and fantastic drum beat of Lars Ulrich.

I posted my interpretation about this song in the

it's about someone who thought that the light approaching to his way is the answer to his problem. So he was happy about it, he didnt listen to the warning of the distant thunder. He was so preoccupied with the success.

"Pay no mind to the distant thunder
New day fills his head with wonder, boy"
but it turned out to be his destruction.

"Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way."
Cool lyrics, yet heavy. =)
James is such a great lyricist.

About the other Metallica songs performed with Symphony Orchestra? FORGET ABOUT IT. :)

enjoy reading the lyrics...

No Leaf Clover - Metallica

And it feels right this time
On his crash course with the big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
New day fills his head with wonder, boy

Says it feels right this time
Turned it 'round and found the right line
“Good day to be alive, sir
Good day to be alive,” he said

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your
just a freight train coming your way

Don't it feel right like this?
All the pieces fall to his wish
“Sucker for that quick reward, boy
Sucker for that quick reward,” they say

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your
just a freight train coming your wayIt's coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way

Then it comes to be
Then it comes to be

metal up your head
